Seven Day Itch

The other day I was out for a short ride and a bee-like creature dive bombed the inside of my left thigh, ricocheting and finally landing near some parties intimes on my right thigh. While he was there he stung me and I immediately knew that this was going to be a special one. Everything got hot nearly immediately and I imagined that I could feel the venom spreading around my leg (luckily it went downwards and not the opposite way).

The next day I had a red welt that covered half of my thigh and it was itchy and hot. So I decided to go for a ride.

This turned out to be a bad idea because either the heat or the friction of the lycra aggravated things and I got home in a much worse state than when I had left (other than cardiovascularly, I suppose..). That was at least 4 days ago now and I’m still waiting for the damn stuff to get out of my system.

I will count myself as lucky because I’ve had worse bee experiences and one of you recently had one caught in your bibs. I’ll leave you with a photo of a bee-sting bun, which I gotta say looks much more satisfying than the real thing.

  1. Ouch! On Thursday I had a bumble bee stuck in my helmet—I had felt it “fly in” one of the aero ducts; immediately stopped and threw my helmet off—too late. The black heary sucker was stuck on the inside of my helmet. Removed him & decided to keep riding to keep the blood flowing—had a bulge for a few days but it wasn’t too bad 🙂

    • It would have been scarier if it’d been on my head! I had one on my neck once that swelled up pretty good and had thoughts of not being able to breathe before I reached home from that ride.
