Many of you will know that tomorrow, April 5th, was supposed to be the day the manly men of cycling take on the Tour of Flanders. Of course it’s not happening now, along with every other race up till the Tour de France (soon to drop, I bet).
But in this crazy world we find ourselves in there WILL actually be a kind of ‘Ronde’, all taking place on the interwebs and clouds of the virtual world. On a platform called ‘Bkool’ serious contenders like De Gent, Stuyven, Evenepoel, Van Aert, Lampaert, Stybar, Van Avermaet, Matthews, Roche, and Wellens will all be ‘racing’ the final 32 km of the virtual Ronde parcours.
And here’s where it gets weird. Sporza, the Belgian sports channel, will be broadcasting it. I think it starts at 15:30 CET tomorrow. Even our regular UK Eurosport guys, Rob Hatch and Matt Stephens, will be commentating, presumably on Eurosport itself, but I haven’t delved that deep yet.
So yes, I’ll be watching avatar pro riders tomorrow. Who could have guessed this day would come..?
It might be all we have left if there’s no season, and I’m betting there won’t be one.
I’m hoping we still have an autumn, but not holding my breath.
I watched a virtual Grand National today. It was rather disturbing.
Did they have the horses on treadmills in their stables? That’d be something.
No, it was as much fun as your virtual tour. They just made it up from algorithms.
I’m not sure I can bring myself to watch… 😦
I’ve watched stranger things, I’m sure!
It’s on GCN Racing on YT as well
Thanks. Pretty spotty on GCN at the moment. Will check out YT now.
