A few weeks ago John G and I had our first double-header of the season, starting with a week in the bucolic and epic Pyrenees. If anyone ever asks you to go to the Pyrenees for a week of riding, just say yes. You’ll never regret it.

This is probably my 5th or 6th tour in these wonderful, pastoral mountains, and it was once again a nice surprise for nearly all our clients…or not such a nice surprise if you include the unexpected 15% ramps in the Basque Country.

The Pyrenees are really the anti-Alps. They have just as much Tour de France history (Tourmalet was used before any high Alpine climb – 1910), but it is far from civilization (but close to Spain!), making it calm, green and a joy to ride in.

So do yourself a favor and plan a cycling trip to the Pyrenees. You can even ask me to make one for you…I’m always looking for an excuse to go back.
Wonderful! We love cycling in the Basque Country.
It’s green, if a little steep.
Green for a reason – all that rain. I’d call it more undulating than steep. The steeps bits don’t last too long.
I have a col or two for you to try, Sheree! Start with the Bagargui…as far as you get from undulating as you could ever hope to go 😉
Do you push elderly people up hill?
We usually throw them (gently) in the van. They seem to appreciate that.
I am sure that they do.
