Race Across Switzerland: Inscrit

Being in Japan these past two weeks has been a nice distraction from the reality of needing to find my 2025 training mojo; but that need has been relentlessly gnawing at me since January 1st. I lasted two weeks into the year, but have finally gone and committed myself to the 500km version of Race Across Switzerland. I’ve written about this before and – probably unfortunately for you – I’ll write about it again. For now, here is the proof of this year’s folly.

  1. Congratulations! As always, I have a cultural/language question. This confirmation looks very French, no doubt due to the fact the race HQ is in the French-speaking portion of Switzerland and/or because your home address is in France. Do you think the race signage will change languages as you move through the German and Italian speaking areas of Switzerland? And what’s up with the English title for the race? Sacre Bleu!

    • A fine question. I did register in French, so I’m assuming that this would change to English if I had chosen that from the beginning. I doubt German will play a big role, but I’ll bet they have everything in English and French for signage. Incidentally, my ‘race’ is only 500km and will mostly be (if not exclusively) in the French speaking area of the country.

I have an answer for the 2nd question! It’s just the name of the event series – taken directly from RAAM (Race Across America), of course. It’s their brand.

    • And it sounds very sophisticated in French, unlike English.

By the way, I needed to look up ‘Sunday name’. I’m glad there are still things to learn.
