Training Update: Ups and not yet Down

A month has gone by since my last update, mainly because I was waiting for some good weight news. This has not materialized, so I’m forced to let you know that I’m still stubbornly sitting around between 71kg and 72kg, or only 2-3 kg down from January. Still, I’m on track if I am following my original monthly goals, but not where I’d like to be. My updated objective is 70kg by the end of this month, so I’ll need to get serious – after I go out for beers with an English friend tomorrow…promise.

Picture above: From one monster to another (taken from Mont Bouquet, the only mountain we have within 70 km of home). Recognize the other guy?

Apart from the weight I’m not losing, riding is going well. I’m up to 14 hours a week and have started to seek out climbs this month, meaning I’m hopping the car more than I’d like. It sure is nice to get into the mountains, though.

I’ve covered nearly 2700km outside so far this year and, more importantly, am up to 30,000m of climbing. No matter how much I do, however, I never feel like it’s enough – TMB is so out there in terms of both distance and climbing. Trust the program, Patterson!

This week was meant to be a recovery week, but I’ve adjusted this a little because the next two weeks I’ll have travel that will play small bits of havoc with the program. It’s hard to believe, but my first client also arrives in 2 weeks. Have to dig out the bike racks!
