First off, I’d like to thank friend/client Eric and Dan from Grand Performance bike shop in St. Paul, MN, for their legwork on what didn’t unfortunately end up being a wheel purchase from Dan. It’s a long story, but both Eric and Dan were stand-up guys and I feel a little bad about not pulling the trigger on the local Minnesota wheels.
But this story does have a happy ending. Another friend recommended Hunt 36 UD wheels for my predicament and when I visited Hunt’s site I discovered they were offering 25% off. I have been seeing Hunt wheels everywhere in the last few years and I know a few riders who like what they have, so it was not a hard decision…or as easy as any decision that involves a little over €1000 leaving my bank balance.
I haven’t ridden much on the new Hunts (the Colnago is in the shop), but from the little I have I can say with some confidence that the extra centimeter or so of depth (over my old Mavics) makes me feel like I’m going faster. They also feel nice and rigid on descents. Oh, and they are also 1300 grams for the pair – yes, I weighed them. Take another 100gr off the weight I’ve been losing.

Gerry, I have been awaiting word on the results of your search. We’re really happy to hear that your search resulted in some snappy new wheels. Please keep us posted on how they feel. I’ll make sure to give Dan a link to your post!
I’ll be sure and show them to you when we ride together in October, Eric!
I am truly looking forward to October!!! Thanks for the kind words about Grand Performance. That’s one real community asset around here!
Glad you like them. I have almost 20k kms on mine so far with no issues…
Thanks for the recommendation again.
