GCN+ Kaput?

You might have received the same email I just saw today, saying that GCN+, my go-to source for nearly all cycling races, is closing its doors.

At first I thought it was spam, then I figured they were replacing it with something better, but after reading through the info on my account, it looks like they are not going race rights anymore. I’m sure Carlton Kirby and Sean Kelly with find new gigs, but this is kind of disappointing, especially because I’m in France and have fewer English options for racing.

Does anyone have any info on this? I’ll even take rumors.

  1. I got this as well this morning. Disappointing. Hopefully my refund goes through, since I just renewed with them for 2024 last month.

The definitive Q&A is here: https://help.globalcyclingnetwork.com/hc/en-gb/articles/19965721079697

Bottom of the page describes where you can watch events based on location. For US this is TBD still.

For the Europe / UK, expect to be pushed to EuroSport, Discovery+ that is part of Warner Bros larger holdings and hence the reason this is happening at all.

    • My one little concern is language restrictions on Eurosport or Discovery+. I understand French commentary, but I usually don’t like it (France TV excepted). I hope they have that handy language tab at the bottom of the screen, like GCN did.

  2. Yes I agree it’s a big disappointment. Hopefully we see them all on discovery/ Eurosport. And hopefully the price is the same.

  3. I suspect the offering was too niche for a larger company’s portfolio. It’s a shame though as the quality was excellent and would have a loyal niche following, who may be good customers for any other offerings from them. Seems to be a symptom of the current economy where everyone is tightening their belts and not willing to commit to less conservative investments.
