A couple of things made me write this short post:
- A friend/client is thinking about insuring his bike for his trip over here next summer.
- I just saw that my car insurer offers insurance for bikes (theft, accident, diminishing FTP…).
- A friend of mine in Nimes ‘exploded’ his bike when a car hit him a couple of weeks ago.
A funny thing happened when I was answering questions for the quote for #2 above – it turns out that the price of my Crisp titanium is too much for them. Obviously not a serious insurer.
But the fact that they even had this product on their site means that people are insuring their bicyclettes. I’ve never once considered it, but I’m having 2nd thoughts now.
Are any of you?
I would of thought a bicycle would normally be insured under ‘home contents’
That’s true if it’s in the house, at least here in France. It’s one reason I keep my bikes in the apartment and not in the garage (where they aren’t insured, I think).
On the road, I don’t think there’s anything.
We insure ours through our membership of French Cycling Federation.
That’s interesting. Are you insured for theft and accident?
I used to get insurance through my CTC membership.
