We all know about the jackass who threw a fully-loaded bidon at Mathieu Van Der Poel’s face in Paris-Roubaix yesterday. Well, he has turned himself in to Flemish police and we’ll see if MVP follows through with his threat to press charges.

I kind of doubt he’ll get his ‘attempted manslaughter’ wish, but they should throw the book at the guy. Poor Mathieu is really hated by a few radical Belgians because he keeps beating their riders. This has resulted in a plethora of stuff being thrown his way, including urine, spit and beer. A solid object of up to 500 grams hitting your face at 50kph brings this up a step.

Being such a cycling-mad nation, surely Belgian laws cover assault with bike paraphernalia.
