I’m going to Japan around Christmas and I might take my bike again. I do know exactly one guy who rides in the neighborhood I’ll be staying in, but I thought I’d look for a club. I found one and I am kicking myself that I never came up with this name for my blog all those years ago: Half Fast Cycling
Sound it out – it just doesn’t get better than that.
That is a good one. I wish I had joined a cycling club when I lived in Japan. Then again, I had a pretty crappy mountain bike and only found the good bike shop when I was leaving.
Enjoy riding around.
Yeah, I sort of wish I’d been more into road cycling then, too, but really, there was no time and nowhere to ride except up and down the river. Where were you living? I’m sure you mentioned it before…
I lived in Wakayama (the part that bordered on Osaka Prefecture and Nara Prefecture). I bought my mountain bike from Top Recycle in Osaka and lugged it back on the train. It had no suspension, but it served its purpose. I gave it to my Friend Mike and it sat on his balcony for a number of years.
I found a proper bike shop in Sayama just north of Kawachinagano one day after going out for lunch at Bikuridonki….too much information, but the image came back to me.
On my most recent trip to Tokyo, I found a couple of amazing bike shops. I also found a great one in Prague.
I didn’t know about bikuridonki, but it’s a great name!
Gerry, this is outstanding!!!! A good morning laugh was had by Patty and me as we’re getting packed. See you next week!
You’re packing early! All the bad weather is getting itself out of the way this week, so we’ll have beautiful clear skies as always when you get here.
oh, with the headline I was into, you are looking for a name for a club for Ultimate Cycling. With age comes distance..😁
ahh, and I will go to Japan Oct/Nov 2025
Excellent! Taking your bike with you?
at least I will go cycling. Either with Brompton, bringing my Gravel for bikepacking or find an Japanese Gerrry for a organized Tour. Depends on my travel mates..😁
Brilliant!
Fab name
Excellent. Definitely the club for me.
For most of us, I’d say
