French Cycling Jargon: Mettre le Pacquet

I have known this expression for some time, so apologies if I’m repeating myself. During yesterday’s last climb to the Col de la Couillole, Laurent Jalabert stated that Enric Mas would met le pacquet on this climb because it was the last road-stage climb of the Tour, i.e. he would leave it on the road / go all out / go full bore…you get the idea.

Whether he mit le pacquet or not, we’ll never know, but that breakaway was ill fated anyway, with a raging Pog a few minutes behind.
