This could be the last (and first?) blog article I write about Thibaut Pinot, since he’s now working with his donkeys and goats in the Vosges, but I didn’t want to let this little gem of simple truth pass me by.
In the last episode of Netflix’s ‘Unchained’ Pinot talked about cycling, or at least climbing, saying:
“Le vélo c’est simple. C’est les jambes et c’est juste un combat entre la pente et toi.”
“Cycling is simple. It’s the legs and it’s just a battle between the gradient and you”
We need more farm boys in the peloton.

Jerry have you done much riding in the Vosges? Looks like another great area for cycling.
Essentially none at all. It’s the only mountain range I haven’t ridden in.
A corollary to, “Shut up, legs.”
Exactly
Pinot is absolutely on the money there.
Pinot was an old time race with passion pro..we need more like him. He was a rider anyone
could easily relate to..a class act on every level visible to the tifosi. He is missed.
Right. Contrast him with Vingegaard, for example. There’s something a little human missing.
Well, based purely on what we see in that series – which, admittedly, may not be fair – Visma’s management isn’t exactly modeling the humanity thing for their riders.
Agreed, we are seeing what makes for good TV, I suppose.
