On my ride in the Cévennes this morning I only came across a couple of water sources, which were so distinct I just had to share them here. The one of the left is a benign-looking tap that helpfully tells you the water could be dangerous to drink. The one of the right is called the Fountain of Love! How could you not fill up there?
The mountains were moody today and the trees on the higher slopes haven’t gotten the note that spring has arrived yet, but it was an otherwise superb ride on roads that I had all to myself.

I like the idea of having a drinking fountain which may be dangerous to drink. You live on the edge in France. To be fair, we probably have some over here, but they just wouldn’t tell us.
The warning is helpful, no question
Man I love the Cevennes. Time for my Spring reading of The Rider. Thanks for the reminder. Raising a Bidon of chlorine and flouride “enhanced’ water in you honor.
I appreciate that, Sam! And yeah, it’s been ages since I picked up The Rider, too. With all this Cevennes riding this spring, I’m feeling like I’m getting my share, though.
A friend lives in Valais, Switzerland and there are a lot of water fountains there that aren’t potable. Something to do with a chemical in the water. Surprisingly it’s only dangerous if consumed over a long period of time but is harmless to the locals who have been drinking it forever!
Here you see these ‘not controlled’ signed often, but the locals always tell me that it’s ‘the best water in the world’. Maybe it’s only good for them!
