Tour du Mont Blanc

There’s a high possibility that it doesn’t, but if memory serves, I signed up to do the Tour du Mont Blanc in 2019, got a pass in 2020 because of Covid, then never used my deferred entry in 2021 or 2022, whenever it came back.

To be honest, I’m happy that Covid derailed my TdMB plans, because this event is the first thing in my brief ‘athletic’ career that gives me nightmares. Conversely, it’s probably because it is still haunting my dreams that I’m considering registering again for next year. Human beings…we are hard to figure out.

For those who don’t know, the Tour du Mont Blanc is the cycling version of an epic trek (and trail run) that starts in France, crosses the border into Switzerland, then Italy, and back to France. Its 330+km / 8500+m makes it one of the most challenging one-day cycling events in the world. Out of all the hopeful starters of this event 40% or more won’t finish within the 19hr time limit, or just won’t finish, period.

The good news is that I actually know all of the climbs above. The bad news – I actually know all of the climbs above.

There’s no date yet set for TdMB 2024, but it’ll be around July 13th, I think. I’ve asked around to a few friends and I’ve had a range of responses; from ‘Ha!’ to ‘I’ve thought long and hard…’. So far this is a solo adventure.
