French Cycling Jargon: Lâcher les Chevaux

Literally ‘release the horses’, this expression means to ‘give ‘er hell’, or something equivalent, which is what the commentators on France TV said about good old Thibault Pinot on the penultimate climb of the day. He did, and passed ‘Pinot Corner’ in the front of the race, before being caught on the last climb. That was something to behold.

  1. Completely class. Sad to see him retire. I’ve never seen so many fans come for one rider in any stage of the Tour de France. Every sign on the penultimate climb near his home was for him. He went out as the most popular rider in France for sure
